Our Mission

The Brome-Missisquoi Solid Waste Municipal Board (R.I.E.D.S.B.M.) is determined to be Quebec's best site for the subsurface containment of solid wastes. We pledge ourselves to a sound management of the landfill and are resolved to lead the way in the field of new technologies. The landfill offers quality services to the citizens, industries, entrepreneurs and institutions of the MRC Brome-Missisquoi and its surroundings. With the sustained contribution of our employees and administrators, we aim to make of landfills the last resort for the management of residual wastes, with an eye to a sustainable development.
The beginnings
The location of the landfill was used as a regional site as early as 1965. The environmental protection services required the closing of landfills to the elimination of solid wastes and recommended the regional grouping of municipalities to proceed towards the common elimination of solid wastes by sanitary burial. The union of the four municipalities Cowansville, Bedford, Dunham et Farnham increased our assurance as to any suits that could be filed against the administration of the intermunicipal waste management system, for the new techniques used were then virtually unknown in Québec. The municipalities passed an act which created the “Commission intermunicipale d'enfouissement sanitaire de la Haute-Yamaska” in the fall of 1977. Continue in “History”
